I finally went on my long cross country and it turned out to be a cross cross-country. My instructor wasn't happy with my level of planning for the flight and spent the flight poking holes. Now I can take being told I'm not up to standard and if I hadn't bothered putting any effort in I'd have taken the poking but I had put in effort. What gets on my wick is inconsistent standards. Don't suddenly pick on inferior quality flight planning if that's the level that you've accepted all along.
I took a day off work and spent quite a bit of cash on the flight to Knock. It was a long flight in a hot cockpit. I came away wounded and vexed. Sure, I learned some lessons but I didn't enjoy it.
