After months of procrastination I've finally decided to get some ANR (active noise reduction) for my ears. A lovely pair of Bose X or David Clark X-11 ANR headsets costs between 700 and 1000 Euro. That's a lot of flying time. No, not for me, the shiniest newest kit.... sadly. I've opted for the cheaper choice. I'm going to upgrade my trusty David Clark 10-13.4 headset to ANR using a kit I've ordered from the US. Essentially, I'm going to replace the innards of my existing headset with new componentry which should give me the same effect.
Apparently this ANR upgrade kit is quiet a good solution. If you want good audio quality for say, listening to music while you're flying the Bose X appears to be the headset of choice. For now my aeroplanes' in-flight entertainment system is reading the classics ,the current IAA chart is practically a classic, and the drone of a Lycoming. Hopefully this upgrade will lessen the later making the former easier.
More on this when the kit arrives.
