Temporarily Unsure of Position.

That's right, I'm not lost, I'm just temporarily unsure of position.

I'm going to ruin the cliff-hangar I left you with in my last post and tell you that I made it back from my qualifying cross-country in one piece.  That was back on the 29th of May. I haven't done any training between then and last week.  Not because I was so deflated by my cross-country, not because I haven't wanted to fly but primarily because this June and July have been extraordinarily wet.

Though I haven't done any training, that's not to say that there are no updates.  There are. Significant ones.

With the qualifying cross county done, I applied for the test and on Friday the 13th the IAA sent me notification that I had been assigned an examiner. He sent me a text a couple of days later to arrange a time.  It was then that it hit me how close I am to having to prove myself.  No more talking about becoming a pilot.  I now have to put my skills where my mouth is.  It's more than a little scary.

I rang The Man and told him that I wasn't current and that I needed some time to get current and to test standard.  He seemed more than happy with that.  I guess it's one of those indicators of good decision making - being able to say you're not ready instead of just ploughing on because you think you should.

After a friendly chat about the joys of classic taildraggers we agreed that my next contact with him should be on the 5th of August.  That call will be to pick a day on the following week to do the test.  That's my target D-day.  I'm aiming to be ready for 5th.  Any additional time will be a bonus.
